Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June.

The day is set aside to honor Fathers for all their contributions.
Gifts, visits and outings are a part of the festivities of the Father's day. 

Sonra Louise Smart Dodd of Spokane, WA started the observance of the Father's Day on the 19th of June, in 1910. She wanted to express her thanks to her own father, who had reared her on his own, since the death of her mother.  Her father, Henry Jackson Dodd celebrated his birthday in June, thus, she chose this month to celebrate the holiday.

In 1936, a National Father's Day Committee was formed and Father's Day  was recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1956. 
President Richard Nixon in 1972, established a permanent national observance of Father's Day and the third Sunday in June was chosen as the date for its observance here in the United States as well, as Canada.
